Unable to get SMART to work with a RAID controller

Problem:   I cannot get S.M.A.R.T. to work with my RAID controller.

Solution:

Our SMART support will only work with SATA drives plugged directly into the motherboard.  It will not work on drives plugged into a RAID controller.  However, please note that some external controller tools (e.g. 3DM) support SMART; in these cases, you can access the information you need from there.
