Problem:

I am planning to use my Backup Exec (BE) 12.5 with my DSS V5. I cant upgrade to V6 now, and I would like to use the latest Backup Exec (12.5).

Solution:

First you need to make sure you are running build 3518 and not any prior releases order to use the Backup Exec
12.5 with the RALUS agent. And please make sure he is using the Backup Exec 12.5 not 12.0 as this is not compatible with the Debian Linux version we use.

Then follow the following procedure:

1- Go to the Windows server were BE is residing then edit the services file from:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

2- Then add the ndmp 10000/tcp entry under the “rasadv’ THIS IS IMPORTANT TO PLACE HERE!!!

3- Set the Network and Security settings.

4- Restart all the BE services from within the BE server application then create the “User-Defined Selections” and right click and the create the Server entries \\dss-source  or \\192.168.0.220

5- Create your backup job.

Once the backup job is completed you will receive an error but your data will still be fully backed up.
