Migrating FC targets from DSS V5 to DSS V6

Last updated: 01 Aug, 2011

Default block size for FC volumes in DSS V5 (4096 bytes) is different than in DSS V6 (512 bytes). If all settings from DSS V5 are restored on DSS V6 from previously saved configuration file, LUN's are automatically added to a target with default block size. Therefore if different size than 512 was used on DSS V5, after upgrading to DSS V6, targets will not be properly recognized by initiators.  To avoid this kind of misconfiguration and possible loss of data it is necessary to remove all LUNs from target and then add them manually. During this procedure a new FC target configuration file is created and volume's block size will now be properly recognized.
