Problem:
I have a DSS V5 machine, and was wondering if I can replicate it to V6 and what is recommended?
Solution:
When setting up your new server just make sure that the volumes are the same size and one server must be setup as Destination (the new server - but do not use for Failover only for Volume Replication until you are completed with upgrading) and the other as source the DSS 5. Then replicate. Make sure the DSS V5 is updated to the latest version build 3518 and that they both are using either file IO or block IO and if using 64bit mode the other needs to be 64bit mode if not and your DSS V5 is in 32bit mode you will need to back up your data then restore or change the settings on the new server as we do not convert these volumes to switch them over. Also keep in mind that the DSS V6 defaults to SCST and that you will need to either convert the new DSS to IET (better to use SCST as this does not do LUN resets) or convert - see this link for more information. http://www.kb.open-e.com/entry/672/
Dedicate your NIC’s or bond for the replication and the others for your initiators for the Virtual IP Address - please read the document from link and remember to make sure that all are on a different subnet or network.
See the link below on how to set this up with the failover for iSCSI volumes.

Use this first before using the Auto Failover!!!
