[DSS V7] ESXi freezes while attempting to communicate with datastores following a fail-over and subsequent fail-back event.

Problem:

When failing over from primary to secondary unit, everything works fine. However, when failing back from the secondary to the primary, the ESXi host freezes and is unable to access the datastores on DSS. 

Symptoms:

ESXi freezes while attempting to communicate with datastores following a fail-over and subsequent fail-back event.

​​​​Solution:

If you have a problem with CLI functions display apply the SU listed in the attachment. 

Please follow the steps listed below:

  1. In CLI (on the either primary or secondary node), CTRL-ALT-X​​​​​​. Choose: Cluster Maintenance Mode​​​​​

  1. Choose enabled:

Then in the GUI, go to SETUP – Failover, and you should see:

  1. Click stop and enable VIPs: (this keeps your VIPs active while the cluster is stopped)

  1. After cluster services are stopped, ESXi will be able to once again access your datastores. Next, you must disable PRS. In CLI (on the either primary or secondary node), CTRL-ALT-X
    Choose: PRS Management

  1. Choose: Disabled

  1. In the GUI,  click ‘start’ to start cluster services:

  1. In CLI (on either primary or secondary node), CTRL-ALT-X
    Choose: Cluster maintenance mode

  1. Choose: disabled​​

  1. Now in the GUI under SETUP – Failover, it should show:

  1. You should be able to failover, and failback without issue.
