How to run BackUp Exec 2012 with DSS V7

This guide will show you how to configure DSS V7 and BackUp Exec to work together

What you need:
-Open-E DSS V7 with NAS volume and some data on it. If you dont have any NAS volumes or don't know how to create it please refer to the manual guide for Open-E DSS V7.

-Server with installed Symantec Backup Exec 2012

DSS:

1. Go to Configuration -> NAS settings -> Backup agent settings.

Select your Backup Agent, enter password for ralus user and apply.


Server with Symantec Backup Exec 2012:

2. Run Symantec Backup Exec 2012 on your server. If you run it for the first time you have to configure your storage:

Click Configure Storage icon and chose configuration that best suits your needs. In this tutorial we will use Disk-based storage -> Disk storage named DS001 on local disk C:







3. Create new Logon Account: Click Symantec Backup Exec 2012 icon in the top left corner -> Configuration and Setting -> Logon Accounts -> Manage Logon Accounts.


Add new account with same username and password same as when configuring Open-E DSS V7.




4. Go to Backup and Restore tab: Click Add Servers.


Chose Linux computer -> next -> and check "Allow Backup Exec to establish a trust with the servers."

-> next -> type the name or IP of your DSS machine and add it to the list.




On the next page chose "ralus" logon account and finish.


5. Now you can create your backup task. You can chose to create either schedule or One-Time Backup. Then you have to chose backup option, for example Back Up to Disk option.


After Symantec Backup Exec discovered your server click Test/Edit Credentials -> Test All ( remember to set Logon Account to ralus).


After you have your credentials tested close that window and click Edit at server box so you can select directories that you want to backup.


At Backup box you can edit options for both Full and Incremental Backup. There is also a possibility do add another stage for your backup. Click ok to approve the configuration. Now you can also run your back immediately when click with right mouse button on your server and choosing "Run Next Backup Now".
