Symptom:
Trying to copy roughly 400GB of data (many small files) from a windows file server to the DSS (NAS share) and he keeps getting the following errors:
[2008/08/20 12:49:41, 0] registry/reg_db.c:regdb_open(288) regdb_open:
Failed to open /usr/local/samba/var/locks/registry.tdb! (Too many open
files)
[2008/08/20 12:49:41, 0] lib/debug.c:reopen_logs(625) Unable to open new
log file /var/log/samba/log.fs-prod: Too many open files
[2008/08/20 12:49:41, 0] auth/pampass.c:smb_pam_error_handler(73)
Problem:
How do you change the maximum number of file handles allowed?
Solution:
The best and most safety way to increase number of open files, is to add more RAM, because the system count the number of open files by the available system memory.
