Cannot see all my drives with software RAID

Article ID: 145
Last updated: 23 Feb, 2009

Symptom:

I have a 8TB DSS license, with 4 1.5TB Seagate hard Disk, on a Supermicro motherboard

Problem:

I am using software RAID and I can only see 2 of my disk drives at a time.

When I swapp the cables I can see the other 2 disk drives (check the serial serial numbers)

all four of the disk drives are plugged into the Supermicro motherboard

Solution:

this problem is related to the settings in the Motherboard BIOS

Please enable enhanced mode and also go into each of the disk drive settings and enable 32bit mode.

The enhanced mode will enable all SATA ports while the compatable mode will allow 2 SATA ports and 2 IDE ports
