Unable to reconnect Open-E server to NT4 domain controller

Article ID: 1
Last updated: 18 Sep, 2008

Symptom:

The server no longer connects to the NT4 domain controller. There is little or no time difference between the two.

The domain-ap.log shows the following:

--- getting domain server name -----------

wbi3:0 (194.120.124.245 WFS-NT1)

checking the trust secret via RPC calls failed

error code was NT_STATUS_INVALID_COMPUTER_NAME (0xc0000122)

Could not check secret

Problem:

The server name is no longer recognized by the controller, possibly because PDC does not feature a central NetBIOS name facility.

Solution:

Remove the server from Active Directory and add it again, if possible, with a new IP and NetBIOS name.  Introducing a WINS server may also help to prevent this from happening in the future.
